Hello Everyone. I am personally thrilled to be a part of this forum. I love the layout and the content, and think it has huge potential.
I'm also happy to be running a website over at www.godieselusa.com that advocates technology and advances in the diesel and biodiesel industries. I'm part of a growing community that believes in the potential for America to break it's dependence on foreign fossil-fuel oils, and to make a change to cleaner, more renewable fuels like bio-diesel. I'm wondering why the HUB uses of styrofoam plates. Even McDonalds has phased out the use of this harmful and wasteful product (they began doing this in 1990!). Why is USU so slow to change? The food is grossly overpriced as it is. The least we could do is serve this food on material that takes up less room in landfills, or is recyclable.

Here are a couple of useful videos showing bicyclists safely travelling in traffic. One shows a cyclist with all the "racer duds" (i.e. spandex and lycra) and the other shows a woman in casual clothes and sneekers on a comfort bike. Both are safely riding in city traffic and seem to be having a pleasant experience.

On the one hand, I hear that bike lanes will really bring out the cyclists in town, but in the meantime, few are "braving" our "Mean Streets" to stop by the Bike-to-Work Week booth down at the County Building.
Where are all the wannabe bike commuters? Make a showing at the B2WW table so we know there's a constituency to be represented. |

Actually, the ride board has been on the web since about March 2006. That was when I wrote the authentication interface (username/password verification) for it. To keep track of any abuses (like testing random passwords to see which was right), I had it send me an email message each time it was used. In the past two and a half years, it hasn't been used enough to be a good way to match up a rider with a driver to any particular location on any particular date. It's going to require a LOT of promotion of this online service before there is a worthwhile probability of finding a match for any travel plans. (By the way, I don't get any information except the Anumber used - I don't know who is planning on going where or when).
Back when the rideboard was on the wall in the hallway of the TSC, it seemed like there were lots more paper tags than I see on the electronic board now. Maybe we need to put a big advertising sign in the hall where the rideboard was, or maybe it's been gone from there for too long for anyone but us old coots to remember it.

Since the primary source of pollution in Cache Valley is cars... lets do something to cut down the traffic to and from USU everyday. My suggestion is having web-cast classes. This is not the same thing as distance ed classes. There would still be an actual lecture in a classroom on campus. Students that want to attend have the option. However, for students that have to commute long distances, they would be able to attend the lecture as well... via a web-cast. There are all kinds of cool ways to make this an interactive process. Students watching the lecture from home could still ask questions. The format of the class would not have to change.
Does anyone think this is a feasible idea?

In what way should sustainability be weaved into USU breadth courses? Should there be a top-down directive to specifically address issues of sustainability in classes. or should it simply be left up to individual teachers? These courses include USU 1300 (U.S. Institutions), 1320 (Civilizations: Humanities), 1330 (Civilization: Creative Arts), 1340 (Social Systems and Issues), 1350 (Integrated Life Science), and 1360 (Integrated Physical Science). Should sustainability be taught in these courses, or should new, separate courses be set up instead? Please add your thoughts!

SoyPrint was there...there booth rocked.....and the guys working it were fun and informational. We don't have to use oil for our toner needs anymore for laser printing...we have SOyPrint now. How many barrels of oil do you think USU could save by switching to a soy-based toner instead of using 3 liters of oil every cartridge?.............

Each summer, my office at USU is FREEZING cold. With the exception of a few days in July, I don't think air conditioning is necessary in Cache Valley. There's so little humidity. I don't use AC at home -- I just open the windows. It must be costing USU a fortune in money and energy for summer air conditioning.

I have had a hard time finding more information about Proposition 1. Yes, I would like to protect open spaces, but how exactly will this proposition do that? What are the issues for property owners?
