Conscious ConsumingThis is a featured page

One of the most obvious ways you can make a difference is with your shopping habits, but where to get started? You may try some of the idea's in National Geographic's Green Guide, or if you are really dedicated perhaps you may want to buy the Better World Shopping Guide. A third resource is "Green Your," which is basically "Your guide to green anything!"

Even better, edit this page or add a discussion item (at the bottom) and list ideas that YOU have implemented. What has worked for you, in your own home or community?

Have you noticed how much food goes to waste? We are "professional urban gleaners" in our home. If I see a fruit tree that is not being picked, I have no qualms about stopping and asking whether or not they would like some help using their fruit. Most people would rather I take it off their hands than see it go to waste. Even though we do not have a garden, we have canned a LOT of green beans, not to mention pears, apricots, peaches, applesauce, grape juice, and more--all from sources in our neighborhood that were offered to us free. Sometimes we get so much offered that we get overwhelmed--my wife goes into a canning frenzy!
Do you find this valuable?
